Engineer tests the cheapest way of boiling water to save money

An engineer says he's found the cheapest way of boiling water, and was surprised by the results. As part of an experiment posted on TikTok, dinosaurdannyx boiled two litres of room temperature water with a kettle and on the hob.

He recorded how much energy was used, and how much it would cost using both methods, the Mirror reports. He said that although kettles use less energy overall, the differing prices of electricity and gas meant the hob worked out cheaper.

"If you're looking for an energy saving, go for the electric kettle," he said. "If you're looking for a cost saving, go for the hob."
