Enfield Town: Seventh-tier side set for European run after Fenix Trophy invitation

Tottenham might not be playing in Europe next season… but near-neighbours Enfield Town will be.

The Isthmian Premier Division side, whose stadium is a stone’s throw from the Spurs training ground, compete in the seventh tier of English football.

But they have been invited to play in the Fenix Trophy, a UEFA-sanctioned competition for semi-professional and amateur clubs.

The 12-team tournament recognises community focus and social purpose. Enfield have been invited because of their history as they were the first-ever fan-owned club in English football.

This will be the third edition of the Fenix Trophy. FC United of Manchester won the inaugural competition in 2021 and last season the final was staged at the San Siro in Milan.

Enfield Town chairman Paul Reed said: “The trophy celebrates unique and progressive clubs across the continent. It’s a great honour to be seen in this light and to join so many fantastic clubs, showcasing all that is good about football away from the professional game.”
