Gas and electricity bills for around 22 million households across the UK shot up by £693 per year from April 1 in-line with Ofgem’s 54 per cent increase to the energy price cap.
This means the average household energy bill will rocket to around £1,971 per year while homes on pre-payment meters will see costs go up by £708 to £2,017.
Prices are expected to go up again when Ofgem reviews the price cap in August, with the change coming into effect at the start of October - so should you consider switching supplier now? In a nutshell - no.
For the immediate future, there are likely to be fewer deals better than the price cap, but if the situation changes and it might be worth your while switching - although Martin Lewis still insists “do nothing” is the best mantra for most customers at the moment - other deciding factors when choosing a supplier will likely be selecting one based on their reputation and customer service.
New research from Trustpilot has revealed which of the largest energy companies come out on top, based on customer feedback.
Using its TrustScore metric - the overall measurement of consumer satisfaction, based on all the service reviews a business receives on Trustpilot, from consumers - Trustpilot has compiled a ranking of the highest rated suppliers.
Based on customer feedback on the platform, Octopus has ranked highest with a TrustScore rating of 4.7 out of 5, with over 92,000 reviews and users highlighting its ‘prompt and efficient service’ and good customer service.
Followed closely behind are Utilita, SSE Energy and OVO, all ranking with 4.4, 4.3 and 4.2 scores respectively.
Meanwhile, ranking towards the lower end of the scale - British Gas has netted a total TrustScore rating of 3.1 out of 5, while E.on scored a rating of 3.5 out 5.

As consumers search for the best possible deals, they’ll also be looking for the best customer service and for suppliers to show they have their best interests front and centre during this period of financial uncertainty.”
Energy customers can also visit the Trustpilot website for each supplier to find out more about the number of positive and negative reviews, while also being able to search reviews by key topics to find more relevant information.
