Energy bills to rise by more than £200 a year amid Iran war fallout

  • Ofgem has announced that the energy price cap will increase by 13 per cent from 1 July.
  • This rise will affect households in England, Scotland, and Wales.
  • The increase means an additional £18 per month – £216 per year – for an average household using both electricity and gas, if sustained for a year.
  • The current energy price cap for a typical household paying by direct debit is £1,641.
  • Ofgem chief executive Tim Jarvis said the change “reflects continued volatility in global energy markets”, driven by the conflict in the Middle East.
