End of southwest monsoon, temperatures to dip in Andhra Pradesh

VISAKHAPATNAM: With the end of the southwest monsoon season, parts of Andhra Pradesh might see a nip in the air soon and the temperatures are expected to start dipping in the coming days.

People in parts of ASR district experienced cool weather on Sunday. Chintapalle in ASR district recorded the minimum temperature of 14.8 degrees Celsius on Sunday (October 23) while other parts of the ASR district recorded below 14 degrees Celsius. The low temperature on Sunday is an indication of the cool days over tribal pockets in the coming weeks.

It may be recalled that Lammasingi or Lambasingi and Tajangi villages under Chintapalle Mandal and Minumuluru under Paderu Mandl in ASR district have emerged the coolest places in the state with around 6 to 8 degree Celsius during the peak winter season.

The IMD-Amaravati said that the southwest monsoon almost withdrew from most parts of the state and it further withdrew from the entire state soon. They also predicted that parts of the state may receive rainfall till December.

Speaking to TOI, Dr Sagili Karunasagar, Scientist of IMD-Amaravati said that the winter season will make its presence felt from the second week of November. We are expecting that the minimum temperatures during the winter season over most parts of the state will be below normal. There will be few chances of extreme cool weather or hot days during the winter season. The minimum temperatures are usually recorded during the night or early mornings. We will get a clear picture in a couple of days to predict the upcoming winter season, he added.

Lammasingi and Vanjangi villages in ASR district emerged as the coolest places during the winter in Andhra Pradesh. The officials at Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS), Chintapalle, record the temperature at Chintapalle. Based on the recorded temperature at Chintapalle, the locals guess the temperature of surrounding areas Lammasingi and Tajangi by deducting 1 to 2 degree Celsius from the temperature at RARS.

The IMD said that no large change in minimum temperatures was observed at many places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and at few places over Rayalaseema. Appreciable fall ( -2.1 °C to -4.0 °C) was observed at few places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalseema. Marked fall (-4.1°C or less) at one or two places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on Sunday. As per the IMD, the Lowest minimum temperature: 18 degree Celsius was recorded at Arogyavaram (Annamayya district) in the plains of state on Sunday. The maximum day temperatures have been hovering between 30 and 34 degree Celsius in the state.
