Empty Edinburgh city centre shop set to become 'exclusive' footwear store

An Edinburgh city centre salon is set to be replaced by an 'exclusive' footwear and clothing retail store.

Flip Supply are aiming to take up residence at 88 Hanover Street, replacing the former Zen beauty salon after plans were submitted to the council's planning team to consider.

The unit in question is currently empty following the relocation of the former salon. Flip Supply, which specialises in exclusive footwear and clothing, was founded just three years ago and recently opened a store within St James Quarter in the capital.

In an access statement included in the proposals, the company say they have become one of the fastest growing brands specialising in footwear in the UK. The team have been collecting trainers since 2013 and have established themselves as a friendly and reliable service with affordable prices.

The proposed business hours are set to be between 8am and 6pm. A description of the proposals reads: "The property is currently Class two (Beauty Salon) and will be converted to Class one (Retail Outlet).

"This is considered acceptable as part of Permitted Development rights however the proposal for painting the façade a different colour than existing deems planning permission a requirement in a conservation area. Additionally, applications are being made for Listed Building Consent as well as Advertisement Consent and a Building Warrant"

Rory Brown, CEO of Flip, commented: "I started Flip Supply during the lockdown in 2020. I have always had a passion for sneakers, clothing & fashion. I have been collecting rare pieces since around 2013.

"Living in Edinburgh we have all experienced first hand how hard it is to find streetwear and sneaker culture within the city. I decided to start my own brand which has seen significant growth year on year. We saw a big gap in the market in our home city of Edinburgh especially in recent times as sneaker industry has evolved and grown. We decided to follow our dreams to open our own sneaker & clothing store."

A post on their Instagram page announced the exciting news to their followers too. They said: "We’ve been waiting to tell you… Our Flagship Store will be opening this summer on Hanover Street, Edinburgh. Thanks for all of the support over the last couple of years! More updates to come."
