Emotional Tommy Fury ‘secures own legacy’ with vital Jake Paul win: ‘This is a world title for me’

Tommy Fury was overcome with raw emotion after his win over fierce rival Jake Paul on Sunday night.

The former Love Island star and younger brother of reigning WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury stepped up on by far the biggest night of his career so far in Saudi Arabia, recovering from a late knockdown to outpoint and hand the YouTuber-turned-boxer his first loss in front of a huge global audience.

It was a measured performance in a long-awaited grudge match from the 23-year-old, who showed his superior fundamentals against a relative novice and took a deserved victory to stay unbeaten as a professional at 9-0.

It did not quite settle the ugly rivalry for good however, with both men signalling their intention for a rematch, with Paul possessing a clause that he intends to swiftly trigger.

Fury was extremely emotional after the win, which he dedicated to his partner Molly-May Hague and their newborn daughter Bambi.

“For the past two-and-a-half years this has consumed my life but tonight I secured my own legacy,” he said through tears. “This is a world title for me.

“This was my first main event. I will come back bigger and better and stronger, if he wants the rematch he can bring it on.

"All the way through, I had a dream, I had a vision that I would win this fight. No one believed me. Now I can stand up, and everyone can take note."
