'Emotional' Luke Williams keeps comments in check as Notts County denied late on at Bromley

Luke Williams has explained the emotional feeling behind Notts County's 1-1 draw with Bromley as his side dropped more points in the National League title race.

The Magpies found themselves a goal down in the 20th minute, with Tiernan Brooks adjudged to have taken down a Bromley player inside the area, with Adam Marriott stepping up to send the 20-year-old the wrong way having seen his earlier penalty saved by the legs of the Notts keeper.

But with a tweak in personnel, a much-improved and free-flowing second-half performance finally reaped its rewards two minutes from time, Macaulay Langstaff latching on to a Ruben Rodrigues pass to score his 33rd goal of the season.

And the Notts number nine almost snatched a late winner for the visitors - turning inside the area before being impeded by a Bromley defender before pulling the trigger. Williams later explained his thoughts on the situation.

"It's hard because I am trying to answer the question without being emotional," said Williams.

"I want to do justice and not say something that is not accurate because I am feeling emotional.

"Macca addresses the ball and I think it is his to hit - and then he is impeded, but I don't know - I need to be careful because I want to show respect all the time and not say something until I have looked at it back."

Williams made three changes to the side that lost to Dagenham and Redbridge at Meadow Lane last weekend, opting for a back four in the absence of Aden Baldwin, while Sam Slocombe also missed the trip to Hayes Lane after sustaining an issue in training in midweek.

The first half showing lacked any resemblance of what we have become accustomed to seeing from this Notts side, with Andy Woodman's side deserving of their half-time advantage.

But when trying to pinpoint what went wrong with his team's first-half showing, the Magpies chief insisted that the blame was down to him for changing the formation that has served his side so well this campaign.

"It mainly went wrong because I changed the back line and the formation because we are trying to look back at previous performances and looking at combinations of different players.

"We prepare a lot to play in a back four and then I felt as though I tried to help the players stem the flow of counter-attacks because they are a very good counter-attacking team.

"But in the end, it didn't seem to help too much and I think we lost our balance at the top of the pitch in this formation. First of all, it starts with me, for sure, then I tried to correct the formation and change the players around that and I thought in the second half we were very good."

To add insult to injury, Williams was on hand to deliver another injury update on the walking wounded, revealing striker Cedwyn Scott had suffered another injury after just recovering from a shoulder problem, insisting he could be out for weeks at this crucial part of the season.

"It's such a shame because he trained and we suffered a new injury with Cedwyn.

"He had just recovered from a shoulder then it's something different, then Sam two minutes later pulled out of training with a problem - it was a terrible day.

"He (Scott) has a small tear high up in the groin, we had a terrible day and it is perhaps a backlash from February and the incredible fixture list and the intensity of all of those games.

"I don't know exactly, but it is going to be weeks rather than months, so now we have to try and help him get mended quickly and then get him fit."
