MIAMI - The 2024 Emmys kicked off with television's biggest stars showing up at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles in their best attire—stunning dresses for the ladies and sharp suits for the men. There were some exceptions, of course. But that is to be expected. However, this year had some confusing changes.
Firstly, the usual red carpet was missing. The stars walked on a white carpet that soon became gray. Also, these weren't really the 2024 awards, but last year's. The ceremony, typically held in September, was postponed to the second Monday of January due to strikes by actors and writers.
Not surprisingly, the Latino stars stole the show with some of the best outfits of the night. However, they had some competition.
Triple nominated Pedro Pascal was one of the most eagerly anticipated actors on Emmy's carpet. He walked late, with her sister Lux Pascal. The Chilean actor, however, faced an unexpected challenge that disrupted his stylist's plans for the awards season. During his holiday vacation in Chile, Pascal suffered a bad fall, resulting in a broken shoulder. Nevertheless, his popularity and charm led designers to adapt creatively. They redesigned their work, incorporating custom-made arm and shoulder braces that seamlessly matched his outfits.
Selena Gomez, Jenna Ortega, Aubrey Plaza, and Camila Morrone were also nominated, representing the talent of Latinas in Hollywood. Selena made her romance with producer Benny Blanco awards official, although they skipped the red carpet.
Ortega and Bella Ramsey could make Emmy history if they win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy and in a Drama Series, respectively. They would become the youngest winner to ever take home the award in those categories.
Jenna Ortega is also the youngest Latina ever nominated to the Emmys.
In most cases, fashion was on point. E! Live from the Red Carpet host, Laverne Cox, was gorgeous in a black siren mermaid dress. Anthony Ramos wore a traditional tux with a twist: a blue shirt.
