Emmerdale viewers were left baffled as a Happy Valley star made a surprise appearance as Rhona made a life-changing decision.
During tonight’s episode of the ITV hit soap Rhona was celebrating her birthday in The Woolpack with her family and friends.
She was left shocked when ex-husband Gus and his new wife Lucy turned up unannounced. Gus explained to Rhona that he wants to have a child with his partner, but they’re not in a position to be able to conceive naturally.

Gus asked Rhona for her permission to use one of her frozen embryos which would mean that while Lucy would carry the baby but it would biologically be Rhona’s.
Mary accused Gus of pressuring Rhona to make a decision and refused to let Rhona give away her future grandchild. The pair argued before ordering them to leave Rhona alone and give her some space.
Later, Rhona’s husband Marlon reassured her that he will support whatever decision she makes about the embryos. She revealed that she’s going to let Gus and Lucy use her embryos and that she’s already given them the good news.
Viewers at home were left baffled at the ‘random’ new arrival as they went straight to Twitter to share their reaction.
@Chris1968E Tweeted: “#Emmerdale, still very weird, Rhona never ever mentioned she'd been married to galloping Gus.”
@adjalf1 wrote: “The fact the writers were so lazy beyond belief they just dropped Gus into the show randomly and expect us to lap up another shitty storyline. No thanks!#Emmerdale.”
@MeeshyJay commented: “Gus is annoying as hell and now he’s brought his wife #Emmerdale.” Baffled fan @Jamie27A_ said: “What the actual f*** Is this Rhona and Gus dialogue like seriously? #Emmerdale.”
While @ShakyWoon added: “Gus just turning up at the Dingle/Goskirk family dinner! #Emmerdale.”
Gus, who is played by Alan McKenna has had roles in several hit shows including BBC hit crime drama Happy Valley. He played the role of Detective Inspector Phil Crabtree.
