Emmerdale star Adam Thomas' road to millions after playing Adam Barton

Emmerdale star Adam Thomas is one of several soap stars to have gone on to make a fortune after leaving their respective shows.

Many soap stars often start their careers in the soaps as a springboard for their acting career or for branching off in other lines of work.

But the end of soap stardom certainly doesn't mean the end of money making in many cases and that theory is certainly relevant when it comes to deep-pocketed actor, Adam Thomas.

According to the website Wealthy Genius, ex-Emmerdale actor Adam Thomas is estimated to have a net worth of $2 million, or £1.4 million.

It's not clear whether he made this money during or after his Emmerdale stint as the 33-year-old star, who played Adam Barton on the ITV soap for almost ten years, has also had several other jobs aside from the role that made him.

Many will also remember Adam as Donte Charles in BBC One's school-based drama series Waterloo Road, which he was on from 2006 to 2009, a role in which he is set to reprise later this year.

He also won the hearts of the nation when he came in third place on I’m Celebrity in 2016, before going on to land a presenting role on spin off I’m A Celebrity: Extra Camp last in 2019.

Adam previously joked Emmerdale paid him the same salary as Tesco in a cheeky jibe, which suggests his wealth came afterwards.

When a pal quipped on Facebook: "Sounds like you work at Tesco, not Emmerdale", Adam replied: "Haha wages are probably not far off to be honest."

It was also reported in 2016 that Adam quit the ITV soap after bosses tried to block him from taking a £100,000 panto role in Newcastle's Jack and the Beanstalk.

A source told The Sun at the time he decided to go with the panto role, adding: “It’s a great payday for him and he’s a popular character on ‘Emmerdale’, so the bosses had to let him make his decision in the hope he may come back in the future."

In an earlier interview Thomas, a Jack of all trades, claimed he "made a fortune" working for a property company in between acting roles.

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I've made a fortune. I'm in between jobs.

"I was just at home, waiting for a phone call to do an audition - I needed something to tick me over.

"I've got a family to support at the end of the day, so I needed some sort of income.

"It's great for my own sanity to get out there and start working."

Previously revealing his role as a property executive, he posted on Instagram: "Yes I am working in the property industry in between jobs because as a jobbing actor you can be out of work.

"That's just the nature of the business...I haven't nor will I ever turn my back on acting ...but I have a family to support and will carry on doing so...whether it be acting or otherwise."

Adam Thomas has invested his fortune into a stunning Manchester home, which he shares with his wife Caroline, son Teddy and daughter Elsie-Rose.

Thomas recently revealed he will be leaving his property days behind him as he confirmed he is reprising his role as Donte in Waterloo Road, but this time as one of the teachers.

The hit BBC school-based drama is returning to our screens after a six-year break later this year.
