Emmerdale's secret killers who got away with their crimes: Dawn Taylor to Cain Dingle

Emmerdale has aired plenty of death and destruction over the years, with killer twists often taking place.

From serial killers to accidental murders, tragedy is always just around the corner in the famous village.

But while the killer is always found out in the end in one way or another in soap land, the culprit doesn't always face justice.

A number of current village residents have either turned killer or have accidentally caused the death of other characters.

That said, many of them have never been found out or have never been reported to the police - allowing them to get away with their crimes.

Dawn Fletcher neé Taylor

Dawn turned killer in 2020, as she shot dead DI Malone after his attempts to kill her.

Malone was trying to get back at Will Taylor, and tried to force his daughter Dawn into injecting herself with heroin.

Dawn had reported corrupt officer Malone to the police over his antics, and Malone decided to kill her in revenge - but he wanted to make it look like an overdose.

Luckily for Dawn, stepmother Harriet Finch walked in and stopped him. When Malone then turned on Harriet, Dawn shot him and killed him.

The body was buried in the aftermath and remains hidden, with the crime covered up.

Cain Dingle

Village bad boy Cain is known for his villainous antics (ITV)

Village bad boy Cain is known for his villainous antics and going above and beyond to prove he's not to be messed with.

But some viewers may have forgotten, or may not know, that he has been involved in a few deaths over the years - and near deaths too.

In 2006, Cain played a part in the explosion that killed Noreen Bell, David Brown and Bob Hope's daughter Dawn Woods.

Cain also tried to kill serial killer Cameron Murray in 2013 and attempted to murder former brother-in-law Gordon Livesy three years later.

In 2019 he tried to kill his own son Nate Robinson after learning of his affair with his wife Moira.

Amy and Kerry Wyatt

Mother and daughter duo Amy and Kerry Wyatt have still not faced justice (ITV)

Mother and daughter duo Amy and Kerry Wyatt have still not faced justice for the death of Frank Clayton in 2019.

They accidentally caused a fire while trying to steal money from the factory, and Frank ran inside to rescue his trapped daughter Tracy Metcalfe.

The pair got out but as the building exploded, Frank was killed instantly. Frank's daughters Tracy and Vanessa did learn the truth, but ended up covering up the crime for Amy and Kerry - despite it looking as though Frank caused the blaze.

Moira Dingle

Moira was revealed to be a killer back in 2017 (ITV)

Moira was revealed to be a killer back in 2017, as she was unveiled as the person that had killed Emma Barton.

Emma was pushed off of the Hotten Viaduct after she killed her husband James Barton, as well as her own son Finn Barton.

As this and her other crimes came to light, amid her almost killing Moira too, several characters wanted revenge.

Ultimately it was Moira who was revealed to be the killer, but her son Adam Barton took the blame and fled the village.

Others that didn't technically get away with their crimes but are still in the village now are Kim Tate and Jimmy King.

Jimmy accidentally killed Paul Ashdale when he lost control of his lorry and crashed into a barn, with Paul inside.

He did face a police charge, but was eventually found not guilty in court over his crime.

As for Kim, she left Frank Tate to die back in 1997, while she also tried to kill Nick Bates, Chris Tate and Graham Foster.

Kim did spend a long time behind bars before her return to the village, but since then her crimes have been forgotten about.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
