Emmerdale icon Mark Charnock has spoken about the Dingle he’d like to see join the famous family.
The Dingle clan is arguably the most famous family in soapland. They spread far-and-wide with one of the best-loved being Marlon - played by actor Mark Charnock.
Mark first started playing Marlon back in 1996. He appeared alongside co-star Zoe Henry at a press event to preview Emmerdale’s upcoming 50th anniversary.

During a question and answer session, Mark was asked which areas of Marlon’s life he’d like to see explored. Mark, who is around 6ft 4in tall replied: “We’ve never really met Marlon’s mum.
“She’s talked about in the sense that I once said ‘I swear on our mother’s grave’ but we don’t really know about his mum at all. We know who his dad was.
“He was Albert Dingle, played by Bobby Knutt, who was not the tallest person. I just think it would be really funny to bring in Marlon’s mum as this towering person.”
Colleague Zoe suggested Frances de la Tour would be the ideal choice. She’s known to many for her roles in the Harry Potter film series and sitcom Rising Damp.
Mark agreed: “Yes, she would be great.” We’ll keep you posted on whether we’ll finally see Marlon’s mum in Emmerdale.
