Emmerdale's Lisa Riley missing from British Soap Awards due to heartbreaking loss

As the Emmerdale cast and crew celebrated their British Soap Award wins on Saturday night, there was a notable face missing from the glamourous pictures.

Lisa Riley did not attend the 2022 awards, which were shown live on ITV, and missed out on accepting the Best Family award with the rest of her fellow Dingles.

Lisa, who has played iconic Mandy Dingle on the soap since 1995, had to miss the ceremony after her family suffered a heartbreaking loss, Chronicle Live reports.

A few days before this year's awards, Lisa gave an update on social media revealing that her Nana had sadly passed away.

She posted: "Today, we know, will be the toughest day, we lean on each other, you are now at peace, yet we are all craving your energy around the house.

“God has gained another Angel. May you light up heaven with your warmth and your infectious smile. “I will be try to be strong for the both of us.”

At Saturday night's ceremony, co-star James Hooton, who played Sam Dingle, said her absence was down to a 'family issue' and wished her well.

It was a big night for Emmerdale at the 2022 awards - as well as the Dingles bagging the fan-voted Best Family award, Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon Dingle, took home the award for Dramatic Performance for his heartwrenching stroke storyline.

Killer Meena actress Paige Sandhu won Leading Performance, and Emmerdale took the top prize home - Best Soap.
