Emmerdale's Danny Miller's nerves at returning to soap after 'year of doing nothing'

Danny Miller was "nervous" about his Emmerdale return.

The actor - who plays Aaron Dingle on the ITV soap - is set to reprise his role this month for a very special celebration to mark the soap's 50th anniversary. As part of the dramatic scenes, Aaron will return to make amends with his family.

Danny quit the show last year ahead of his stint on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here, which he eventually went on to win and was named King of the Castle. Since then, Danny has been enjoying time at home with his wife Steph and their son Albert.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press, he said: "I keep in touch with loads of different people. You know, I've got Lee my friend who's an Assistant Director and Dominic and Lucy from the cast.

"A lot of people, Jeff Hordley, who I keep in regular touch with and it did feel a lot like I haven't really been away or it was the same feeling you got when you'd have two weeks off on holiday and you'd come back. I was nervous, which I think it was a good thing now. I didn't wanna ever think that I was just sort of slotting back in, or it was gonna be easy."

Whilst he struggled with his nerves, Danny admits it was a "good thing".

"I think it was a good thing that I was nervous to get back and see everyone and could have still done it after a year of doing pretty much nothing with Albert. And it's great to see the brain still works anyway," he added.

To get back into his role, Danny put on Aaron's boots and immediately felt better.

He shared: "They very kindly gave some of his nicer jackets when I'd left last year. They got a couple of new things in, and there was the old stuff there as well, and it just, it felt weird. They put me in trainers at first on the first day and I was like, he just didn't feel right. And I said, no, they don't have to be muddy as if he's been working.

"But I think he's kind of like Doc Marten boots, like a sort of working man's Timberland boot. So I asked, could I have the old boots back, which they were very kind to do so, and, and it was weird as I put them on and went, all right, that feels a bit better."

Danny explained how it was an "honour" to return to the show to mark the 50th anniversary.

"It was an honour that they wanted me to come and say, 'happy birthday' to the show. It's been really nice getting back and seeing everyone. There's a lot of new faces and lots of old faces, and it's been nice to get to know them and catch up with people that I've not seen for over a year," he shared of his sweet reunion with his castmates.
