Emmerdale's Daisy Campbell on teen pregnancies and plans for the future

Emmerdale fans are currently wondering how Amelia Spencer's storyline will unfold following the shocking news that the teen is pregnant.

Thursday's episode left viewers reeling when it became apparent that the 15-year-old's dizzy spells and blurred vision had nothing to do with the syrup she had been taking to change her weight. A trip to the hospital revealed the real reason for her health issues with many now wondering who the baby daddy is.

Yorkshire actress Daisy Campbell, who plays Amelia, said the storyline was "important" and that her character was now faced with the difficult decision of whether or not to keep the baby. Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, Daisy, 18, said she the whole situation was "a nightmare" for Amelia.

She said: "Teen mums do an amazing job and I really want to do this justice for them all. This is such a gritty and important storyline.

"Being a teen mum is not something I would want right now."

She added: “Amelia is only 15 and she finds it so crazy at first that she is pregnant. She is still a child; she hasn’t left school yet and it’s a total nightmare for her."

After passing out while babysitting baby Thomas, Amelia ends up in hospital where doctors tell her she is expecting. The teen then decides to book an appointment at an abortion clinic and Daisy said she is convinced she wants to go through with it.

"She thinks she is too young to have a baby and she won’t be able to provide," said Daisy. "I don’t want to spoil it today as to whether she does have an abortion or not, but she is in for some rocky few months."

Viewers have been speculating who the father could be, with some convinced it could be Noah Dingle, who is currently locked up for stalking. Others have their money on Samson Dingle.

Fans have also pointed out Noah being the father could be immensely problematic as he is 18 and Amelia still a minor. Happily, Daisy’s love life is far less volatile.

She said: "I am single. I want to concentrate on my job and I like spending time with my friends. I am 19 in a couple of weeks and my friends come first right now before anyone."

Daisy joined the soap eleven years ago and has since amassed more than 55,000 followers on Instagram where she shares glamourous snapshots of her life. She revealed that she has had people messaging her to ask her out.

She admitted: "I won’t block them but I do mute them. I am not interested. I am happy with my life.

"I’ve got lots of great friends on the soap and I get on really well with Rosie [Bentham], who plays Gabby. We have just recently returned from such a fun girls’ holiday in Ibiza.

“We had such a brilliant time even though we did get our bags stolen on a beach whilst we were there with our phones in them. That was a nightmare, but it hasn’t stopped us wanting to go away together on holiday next year.”

Being a child star is by no means easy but Daisy said she had no regrets spending the better part of her life on the show. Instead, she said she felt "lucky".

“It was hard at times when I had to miss out on great school trips, but I feel lucky to be part of a big show," said Daisy, who lives at home with her parents, Rory and Alison, and two siblings in Yorkshire.

"And because I do mix with a lot of adults, I do feel I have matured quickly. I love working.”

In May she got to attend her first ever Soap Awards which she enjoyed immensely, especially since Emmerdale won best soap. Asked whether she wants to leave the show anytime soon, she said she would love to stay for as long as possible and also shared her big dreams for the future.

"I would love to take part on Dancing on Ice while still working on Emmerdale. I want to stay on the soap for as long as I can," said Daisy.

“I am not very good on ice, but I would love to learn how to skate.”
