Emmerdale's Alexander Lincoln 'would love' to return after character confirmed alive

Emmerdale star Alexander Lincoln has responded to fan speculation on whether or not his character will be returning.

The 28-year-old who portrayed the role of Jamie Tate on the ITV show has said it would be “really beautiful” to return to the village at some stage. Viewers of the Yorkshire-based soap will remember Alexander’s character, Jamie, was involved in a dramatic exit as he drove his car recklessly out of town and accidentally drove off a cliff edge into a lake.

For some time fans were left in the lurch regarding if Jamie was alive or not, however, episodes aired recently confirmed he survived the crash. Now many fans believe they have worked out the character’s fate after his mum Kim received an out-of-the-blue letter from the fictional vet.

The scenes, which aired during Sunday’s delayed episode, saw Kim welcome granddaughter Millie back into her home after her dad had scarpered. Later in the episode, Kim was surprised to see a letter had arrived with her address written in Jamie’s handwriting.

Opening the envelope, she found Jamie had enclosed a letter to be given to Millie on her 18th birthday and had also attached a note saying he planned to stay away. The scenes come amid fan speculation the character could be returning for the 50th-anniversary episodes of the soap, but Alexander confirmed: “there are no plans as of yet.”

He told the ECHO : "Talks are always open. To be honest, I'm not sure yet, but I would love to go back at some point. I generally love the show and the people on it. It was an amazing experience for me. Although it was recent, it was where people first saw me so it would be really beautiful to go back at some point. But there are no plans as of yet."

Since leaving the show, Alexander has gone on to star in an LGBTQ+ rugby-based film, In From The Side. Portraying the role of Mark, Alexander’s character embarks on a six-month affair with another player from his team despite both of them being unavailable. As the couples’ secret begins to unravel team spirit, loyalties and camaraderie are tested.

Asked where fans can expect to see him next, Alexander added: "I'm still waiting on the next lead role I've got little bits going on with other projects but I'm still waiting on that next script that really lights up the soul."
