Actress Meg Johnson, best known for her 17-year stint as Pearl Ladderbanks on Emmerdale, has died aged 86.
The ITV soap paid tribute to the "kind and wonderful" star, whose acting career spanned almost six decades, appearing in The Good Companions, Coronation Street, and the Victoria Wood show.
A joint statement from Johnson's family, Emmerdale and talent agency Jorg Betts Associates said: "It is with great sadness that we announce that actress Meg Johnson passed away peacefully yesterday evening surrounded by her family.

"Meg was a kind and wonderful lady, full of warmth and always with a twinkle in her eye. Meg had an outstanding career that ended with her playing Pearl Ladderbanks in Emmerdale from 2003.
“Meg had dementia for the last few years, but battled on personally and professionally regardless. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.”
Fans on social media shared their condolences following the news of her death.
Gemma Oaten said: "Such a sad loss, but what a life and what a treasure she was. Sending love to you all she was always so kind (and wickedly funny!) Love to her beloved family and friends too. RIP"
Lewis Pringle said: "RIP Meg, she was a wonderful actress and was fabulous as Pearl. Always glamorous, and always had heart. Lovely lady, my thoughts are with her family."
Emma Carroll said: "Very sad news !! Loved Pearl in Emmerdale and during the Covid lockdown really enjoyed watching early episodes of Corrie, where she played Fred Gee's squeeze Eunice. Loved her and Annie Walker scenes trying to outdo each other while Fred played referee."
