Emmerdale legend hints at return for ITV soap's 50th anniversary special

Former Emmerdale star Emily Symons has teased the possibility of her return to the ITV soap for the highly-anticipated 50th anniversary celebrations in October.

The 53-year-old Aussie actress played Louise Appleton on the Dales between 2001 and 2008, but has since moved to her native home Down Under to play Marilyn Chambers in Home and Away. However, during an appearance on This Morning on Thursday, Emily addressed rumours of her return to the Dales for the special episodes.

Speaking to the ITV daytime show hosts, she admitted that she is not set to reprise her role “at this point”, but then cryptically added: “My boss is sitting right there so I can’t say anything.” Emmerdale has already confirmed three former characters will be making their way back to the village later this year.

As the soap celebrates its 50th anniversary in October, there will be dramatic and deadly scenes on the way as characters face peril.

But fans can also expect the arrival of three familiar faces around this time, with each of them having a huge impact on their loved ones with bombshells and discoveries ahead.

Aaron Dingle, Diane Sugden and Tracy Metcalfe will all make a brief return for storylines later this year, with a "huge" story ahead for one of the three.

It's said the returns will all be part of unfolding storylines, and their arrivals and what they have to say will impact those around them.

One character will bring big news with them, ahead of a possible permanent return later down the line.

Danny Miller quit the soap as Aaron last year, but bosses have confirmed he will be back - and could find himself embroiled in two key storylines.

Tracy actress Amy Walsh has been on maternity leave, after her final scenes aired in January, while it's not yet known if a full-time return is in the works.

As for Diane, soap legend Elizabeth Estensen bowed out last year after more than 20 years on the ITV soap, as she retired.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press, producers Jane Hudson and Kate Brooks spilled on the returns and what it would mean for the villagers.

Kate spilled: "We have the return of some very familiar faces to the Dales with Diane, Aaron, and Tracy. They will all be making a reappearance, albeit on a temporary basis, but they will come back.

"They'll be at the heart of some really big stories that will impact their lives, and not just their lives, but the lives of the characters they leave behind. So it's all really exciting, and it's all brilliant."
