Emmerdale legend Dominic Brunt fears for soap future with 'tricks' planned for soap's 50th anniversary

Emmerdale legend Dominic Brunt has spoken about his fears for the future of his character Paddy Dingle as the soap makes plans for its 50th anniversary.

Dominic Brunt, 51, first joined Emmerdale as the lovable vet back in 1997. Down the years, he’s made an army of fans from the soap’s millions of viewers.

As viewers will know, Emmerdale will celebrate its 50th anniversary later this year. Soap bosses and stars have been promising big things for the programme’s milestone.

In true soap fashion, there is sure to be comings and goings as part of the major storylines. Dominic has spoken to the Metro about the fears he has for his future in Emmerdale.

“If I was to go tomorrow though, I wouldn’t complain because I’ve had 25 amazing years – but long may it continue,” Dominic said. “I absolutely love that job to pieces. I can’t explain to you what it means to me.”

Dominic has looked back on his 25 years in Emmerdale with great happiness. We’ve seen Paddy involved in his fair share of major storylines - including lots of ups and downs in love.

“I saw a picture the other day for the 25th anniversary and I’m in the picture, and I just think ‘oh my god, 25 years ago?’ It feels like seven,” Dominic explained. “Your life just flashes along so quickly, but I’ve been so lucky.

“God knows how many bullets I’ve dodged in that. I’m just so grateful that they’re still writing for us and trusting us with these storylines.”

On plans for Emmerdale’s 50th anniversary, Dominic said soap bosses have been tight-lipped but knows there’s a few surprises lined up. He said: “I keep hearing different things about the 50th anniversary episode itself.

“I think it’s going to be like a 50th week, or month, with the stories coming up. They’ll have tricks up their sleeves, it’s been a long time in the planning.”
