Emmerdale fans 'work out' why Marcus Dean turned into villain and slam 'poor' exit

Emmerdale viewers have come up with theories as to why Marcus Dean's storyline has turned sour ahead of the actor's exit.

Actor Darcy Grey announced he has quit the show, after just one year in the Dales. Naturally, producers have had to come up with a way to write his character Marcus Dean out of the storylines but fans were not happy with their choice.

In the latest episode, which aired on February 20, Marcus was caught cheating on boyfriend Ethan Anderson who was about to propose. During a heated argument, Marcus said that he felt like Ethan was constantly looking down on him.

He told him: "I mean I've never really been able to match your standards, have I? You and your lawyer mates, your fancy words, your big causes and me, on my hands and knees, messing around with wires.

"What are you looking so shocked about? Everyone knows that's what you think. We are from two different worlds."

Ethan, visibly upset, then told him that it shouldn't matter when you love someone. He then told Marcus to leave and said things were over.

Viewers were unhappy about Marcus's exit story and thought writers could've chosen a better way to write him out of Emmerdale. Others were sad to see him go, saying he had "so much potential".

@cassam101 wrote on Twitter: "Quick story change for Marcus as the actor had said he wants to leave. Let's make him the bad guy!

@harry_shumjr complained: "After the way Marcus reacted to Nate cheating on Naomi did the writers really think we would buy him randomly cheating on Ethan? What a poor excuse of an exit for a character that had so much potential."

@lady_cp asked: "This is the leaving story they came up with for Marcus leaving?"

And @maitra_sulagna said: "Another potentially good character wasted. Bye Marcus! Wish you every success in another story."
