Emmerdale’s tense search for Samson Dingle ended in joy on Monday evening as the teenager was finally discovered by Noah Dingle and Mackenzie Boyd.
The troubled teenager had been missing from the village for days following the shock storm which killed Harriet Finch and Liv Dingle.
Last week’s final episode showed fans a brief glimpse of Samson unconscious in a dark tunnel, after the terrible storm, leaving his stepmum Lydia terrified at the start of Monday night’s episode.
The police’s initial search for him had proved fruitless, but Noah became determined to help and reassured new mum Amelia Spencer that he would find the newborn’s father Samson.
Mackenzie decided to join Noah for the desperate search and the pair managed to find the tunnel – although an initial phone flashlight left Mackenzie turning away and saying the passage was empty.
However, an eagle-eyed Noah spotted movement inside and rushed over to discover an unconscious Samson buried under a pile of dry leaves.
The character was rushed to the hospital, but as he was diagnosed with hypothermia, Emmerdale fans were left staggered that the police had failed to find the teen as well as Mack’s initial dismissal of the tunnel.
Taking to Twitter after the scenes aired, one wrote: “Did Mack seriously just walk up peep into the massive space under the bridge and be like: nope nothing! What? Never thought I'd write this but thank f*** for Noah! hahaha.”
“So Mackenzie was just gonna flash a light from a distance to conclude nothings there,” another chimed.
“Sack the police that was searching ...hire Noah,” a third wrote as another tweeted: “How did Emmerdale go from best ever to s*** in one day? Mac holding his torch up instead of walking through is lazy minded daftness!”
In the Emmerdale hospital, the teenager made a speedy recovery and was quick to thank Noah for managing to find him.
He explained he had suffered an injury to his ankle and fled to the tunnel to take shelter, covering himself in leaves for warmth.
When he then saw new mother Amelia, Samson’s parents encouraged him to meet his new daughter – who she had decided to call Esther – but fans were then left dumbstruck as the wheelchair-bound character told the newborn baby he had no plans in being in her life.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV.
