Emmerdale has shared a new trailer teasing what viewers can expect from the episodes airing in October as part of the soap's 50th anniversary - and fans say they "can't wait". It comes as the long-running drama announced last week, that an hour long special episode would air on Sunday, October 16 to mark the official birthday.
The soap opera will be marking five decades on our screens next month and the storylines for the upcoming landmark anniversary have already been building. In August, Emmerdale revealed a huge storm will hit the village that is set to wreak havoc, The Mirror reports.
Characters including Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock), Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin), Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), Noah Dingle (Jack Downham) and Kim Tate (Claire King) in a muddy wedding dress all feature in the minute long stormy trailer. The clip also shows Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) in a face off scene and young couple Liv (Isobel Steele) and (Bradley Johnson) who have recently had their relationship tested by Liv's mum Sandra.
The trailer, which shows the characters as cake figurines on an impressive Woolpack 50th anniversary cake, was shared on the Emmerdale social media accounts on Thursday, September 29. The caption read: "A storm is brewing in the Emmerdale village. Take a look at what's in store for a very special birthday month."
Needless to say the teaser has left Emmerdale fans eagerly awaiting the episodes next month with many taking to social media to share their thoughts. Jordan Phelps tweeted: "This trailer looks [fire emoji] hope this episodes live up to it now." to which Emmerdale replied: "We can confirm that they do [fire emoji]."
Danny Gaming posted: "I can't wait to see what you have in store for the 50th anniversary! Most certainly a storm is brewing!" Mike said: "I can’t wait for these episodes I’m expecting a few deaths. Well we know one will be faith but I think a murder will happen and maybe a death from the storm."
Farha added: "That trailer blew me away can not wait Emmerdale for your birthday." Aaron Mooney tweeted: "I’m actually in love with this trailer. Like I can’t stop watching it, it’s making the back of my neck tingle."
"How cool does this look?!" Charlotte said: "Can't wait, bring it on!!!" and Michelle added: "This trailer looks amazing bring on your birthday month."
This special trailer has been created by a team at ITV Creatives. Executive creative director at ITV Creatives, Tony Pipes, compiled the special trailer and said the 50th anniversary will be ‘a landmark moment in television’.
“It’s amazing that a show has lived in the hearts and minds of the nation for five decades," He said: "The idea of a celebration cake came from the creative Jess, who saw it as a great vehicle to tell the story of the upcoming special episode, while also celebrating its heritage.”
Director Matt Rhodes said the actors stood ‘completely motionless’ and 3D printers were used to create the figurines. He explained: “They couldn’t move an inch as their clothes and hair were on wires to give the impression they were being battered by the high winds.
"Everything was recreated exactly as it is seen in the show," Rachel King, creative director added: "From The Woolpack to the barn, the car to the costumes. It’s a microcosm of the Emmerdale World,”
“The audience are invested in the storylines of these well-loved characters and will be intrigued by the clues and easter eggs (not chocolate ones) of what’s to come, embedded into the film. While the execution is unfamiliar, using models, all of the action remains in the familiar and where the fans’ hearts live.”
Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV and ITV Hub from 7.30pm.
