Emmerdale fans question 'short memory' as they spot huge problem

Emmerdale fans think they spotted a glaring error during Tuesday's instalment of the long-running soap.

Leyla had a decision to make after being offered a job in London. While it came with a much bigger salary, and would mean a fresh break from her estranged husband Liam, it would also mean leaving her son, Jacob, behind.

After receiving a call from her potential new employer, Leyla said she would "definitely think about it" and "be in touch straight away".

She then paid Jacob a visit to gauge how he would feel about it, but after the teen was almost killed after being stabbed by his mum's drug dealer earlier this month, he made his feelings clear. Jacob said: "You're [my mum] in name only. What have you ever done for me?

"David's my stepdad and he's been more of a parent to me than you ever have". He then told her to take the job so he "wouldn't have to see you again".

The interaction left many viewers baffled, however, because in scenes that aired in December, Jacob actually lied and said Liam Cavanagh was his dad. When David found out he was humiliated, feeling Jacob didn't love him or deem him good enough to be considered his dad.

Taking to Twitter, Sophie said: "David is much better a parent. that's why I told my uni friend Liam was my dad!", while TJuice24 said: "Mate last week you were pretending Liam was your dad!"

Lauren said: "Short memory or what? David wasn't good enough to be your dad five minutes ago".

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV and ITVX
