Emmerdale viewers were a little confused this week, as they discovered Caleb Miligan knew something huge about the past.
The character was seen confiding in secret son Nicky Miligan about his reasons for taking down Kim Tate, and he dropped some new information.
Nicky talked of a "rumour" that they had not clarified, as he called for his dad to end things after struggling with the lies.
The character snuck off for a night of passion with his ex or maybe current flame Ally, before returning home to his fiancée Gabby Thomas.
Of course viewers know that Nicky is using Gabby as part of Caleb's master plan, wanting to get their hands on all of Kim's fortune including Home Farm, and the inheritance money and shares Kim gave to Gabby for her son Thomas.
Caleb is the secret son of Kim Tate's ex-husband Frank Tate who died in 1997 from a heart attack, while Kim was there.
The pair had a blazing row as she returned after faking her death and framing him, and the argument led to a major heart attack.
Kim mocked him as he lay dying on the floor and left him to die, before returning not long after to steal some of his fortune.
Somehow it seems Caleb knows of this, or perhaps he heard the speculation about Kim and Frank at some point.
It's not known who would have told Caleb this and if he's in contact with the other Tates, given only Kim and Frank were in the room and no one knew at this point that she was alive.
It was only her later return that confirmed her fate, by which point Frank was already dead - so how did Caleb learn of her possible involvement in his demise?
To learn that Caleb had based his whole revenge plan on something he had been told but didn't have confirmation over left many fans baffled.
Taking to social media, one viewer posted: "Frank died of a heart attack tho and no one knew Kim was involved so how does he know?"
Another tweeted: "'We don't know that?' Hmm. So Caleb is basing his revenge on a rumour? That won't cut any ice with Kim."
A third fan added: "how awesome would it be if Jamie, Joe and Jean were just feeding them the info they wanted to hear, then once Caleb's fam took it off Kim they took it off them."
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
