Emmerdale viewers were left in absolute floods of tears on Thursday evening as Faith Dingle's long battle with terminal cancer came to an end in emotional scenes.
The matriarch of the iconic Dingle family passed away with her son by her side as Sally Dexter's character bid farewell to the dales.
After promising Moira she wouldn’t end her own life, Faith put her final plan in action, devastating her son Cain when he returned unannounced and witnessed her death.
Faith's cancer had spread to her brain in recent weeks and her palliative care nurse told the Dingles they would need to make decisions for her.
She christened herself 'Queen of Everything' at the beginning of the episode before Moira organised an express Christmas for her.
Nate then brought her to bed, where she would pass after taking a number of pills, in the arms of a distraught Cain.
Though daughter Chas wasn't there, as she was continuing her affair with Al in a swanky spa - ignoring the desperate calls of her husband Paddy to get home to be with her mother.
"Emmerdale knocked it out of the park with tonight’s episode" one user tweeted
"Cain waking her up shouting “mum” “mummy” has ruined me" added a second.
A third wrote: "Cain's "Mummy" broke me so powerful"
Sunday evening's episode will mark the 50th anniversary of the Virgin Media soap, with a storm set to destroy the village and put a number of characters at risk.
