Soaps are known for their emotional scenes and drama, with death and destruction a key twist shared by Emmerdale, EastEnders, Coronation Street and Hollyoaks.
But some soap families just have no luck, with it often being that one surname more than most crops up where heartbreak is concerned.
All four soaps have seen families suffer time and time again with tragedy and loss, to the point they could well be cursed.
Corrie's Kelly Neelan said in a recent episode how she was losing everyone around her, after the deaths of her mother Laura and father Rick, and then her former guardian Imran Habeeb - who actually lost his sister Rana Habeeb just a few years ago on the soap.
But Imran and Rana aren't the only ill-fated siblings in soap land, and Kelly isn't the only character to have lost so many people around her.
Corrie
Asides Imran and Rana, there have been other siblings on the soap who have met a tragic end in close proximity.
Michelle Connor faced heartbreak when her brother Paul Connor died in a car accident in 2007, as his vehicle collided with a lorry.
Just a year later, his brother Liam Connor was deliberately run over and killed at the request of his love rival Tony Gordon
Further tragedy hit the Connors later on, when Michelle's cousin Aidan took his own life in a devastating storyline in 2018, and then Aidan's father Johnny drowned during a storm in 2021.
Other Corrie families to face tragedy include the Peacocks, with Maxine murdered in 2003, her husband Ashley dying in 2010 and Ashley's father being killed off in 2006.
Emmerdale
Emmerdale has seen almost entire clans wiped out over the years, with the Kings being at the centre of huge death twists.
Jimmy King is the only original King left standing, following the deaths of his brothers Max, Carl and Matthew, and his father Tom.
The Bartons have also had their fair share of tragedy, with five family members having been killed off over the years.
John Barton was the first to die in a car accident 2012, followed by the death of his daughter Holly Barton who sadly died from a drug overdose in 2016.
Just months after her death, her uncle James was killed by his wife Emma, with Emma then accidentally killing her son Finn in 2017. Emma herself was killed this same year.
Other families shrouded in tragedy, including characters who later returned from the dead, are the Tates and the Dingles.
For the Dingles, characters that have passed away include Lisa, Shadrach, Butch, Alice, Joanie, Ben, Jedediah, Tricia and baby Grace.
Hollyoaks
Hollyoaks is possibly the soap that kills off the most characters, so it would be no surprise if the show had the most cursed families.
The Costellos left the village after numerous tragedies, and as it stands the family has lost Heidi, Carl and Riley.
Another family no longer in the village are the Roscoes, with the deaths of Ziggy, Joe and killer Lindsey, while Freddie was presumed dead before he returned to the show very much alive.
But one family still on the show who has faced a lot of heartache is the McQueens, with recent deaths bringing them to quite a total.
McQueen deaths include Tina, Carmel, Bart, Phoebe, killer Breda, Lily, Sylver and Celine. There's also their villainous relative Niall.
EastEnders
Finally, we've come to EastEnders where deaths are less frequent than other soaps, especially Hollyoaks.
But families have still seen multiple losses and tragedy, such as the Owens.
Following Steve Owen's brutal car explosion death in 2002, fast forward to 2019 and his son Hunter was shot and killed by police after taking the pub hostage with a gun.
His grief-stricken mother Mel, an original character on the BBC soap, then died a year later after being hit by a lorry.
Martin Fowler has lost several relatives over the years, including his mum Pauline, dad Arthur and brother Mark, whose wife Gill died in 1992.
Other families who have suffered multiple losses include the Brannings, with siblings Bradley and Abi both dying in similar circumstances, while their uncle Derek died in 2012.
The siblings' cousin Billie Jackson also sadly died in 2010, while matriarch Jim Branning died off-screen in 2015. Jack Branning's wife Ronnie Mitchell was killed off in 2017.
Then there's the Beales, with Cindy, Pete, Laura, Lou, Lucy and Steven all meeting a sad fate, while the Mitchells have lost Jamie, Ronnie, Roxy, Peggy, Tiffany and Archie.
We could keep going with EastEnders too, with Den Watts, his son Dennis Rickman and Dennis' son Denny all being killed off.
Hollyoaks airs on Channel 4 at 6:30pm weeknights, with the next episode on at 7pm on E4.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV, while EastEnders airs at the same time on BBC One on Mondays to Thursdays.
Corrie airs straight after Emmerdale at 8pm on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays.
