Emmerdale star Tony Audenshaw has revealed ITV and the soap had wanted its new later airing time for a while, before making the change this month.
From this week, fans of the soap can watch it at 7:30pm every night on the channel, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays - instead of the two 30-minute episodes that normally air.
The Bob Hope actor revealed those working on the soap have been keen on the 7:30pm time slot "for a long, long time" and now they finally have it.
It means the show will permanently clash with rival BBC soap EastEnders, which airs at the same time on another channel.
Soap fans will be forced to choose between the two shows every single night, asides Friday, and will have to watch the other at a later time on streaming services, or ITV +1.
The news has divided loyal soap fans, with many not impressed with having to choose between them - while others shared it did not have too much of an impact.
Those that watch all three big soaps were previously able to watch each new episode as they aired, with no major clashes most of the time.
Coronation Street did change their Friday episode time every now and again, while sports coverage on both channels meant that some schedules were altered occasionally.
But now all three soaps have changed their transmission times for the foreseeable, and it means EastEnders will always clash with Emmerdale.
Initially it was thought it would air at the same time as Emmerdale on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the same time as Corrie on Mondays and Fridays.
But EastEnders' own new timetable has meant it only clashes with Emmerdale - as the two soaps go head-to-head.
Speaking about the move, and promoting Corrie, Bob actor Tony revealed everyone at Emmerdale was pleased about the later airing time.
He said on Lorraine on Monday: "That’s right, 7:30 every night. We’ve wanted 7:30 for a long, long time and now Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we are going out at 7:30PM, and Thursdays a full hour episode.
"Corrie is going out at 8 o'clock for an hour on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, so it's a whole night of soap for you on ITV all week."
Of course the change means some viewers might end up seeing spoilers for one of the soaps, while watching the other show on at the same time.
Taking to Twitter, many soap viewers confessed they were disappointed by the decision to clash the shows.
One fuming soap fan wrote: "Won't be watching itv now they have made soaps clash, my son will not be happy as his favourite is Emmerdale and mine is EastEnders, don't have catch up so will be turning off!!! Thank you ITV! The tv is cr*p enough already, and is getting worse!"
Another wrote: "I hope #Eastenders Does better then #Corrie & #Emmerdale and all of #ITV all of this week so that BBC and Eastenders can rub it in their faces. ITV have hit an all time level of petty and low with all this recent time changes and snubbing EE on Soapbox ect they deserve nothing…"
