Former Emmerdale star Tom Lister is best known for his role as Carl King in the long running ITV soap, who he played for eight years between 2004 to 2012.
Carl King was the third son of Tom and Mary King and was the first member of the King family to arrive in the village. He certainly caused quite a stir in the village and was known for being something of a womanizer.
Carl had a bad temper on him and was responsible for two accidental deaths. His fellow villagers knew he was not one to be crossed.

The character was part of some major storylines during his time on the soap but was eventually murdered by villainous Cameron Murray as part of Emmerdale’s 40th anniversary, forcing acting star, Tom, to move on in his career.
We've taken a nose dive into Tom Lister's life from early life and acting career, family to what he's up to now.
Tom's early life and career
The actor studied at Birmingham School of Acting (BSA) for three years. He graduated in 2001, before beginning his career making appearances in TV shows including Heartbeat, Doctors and The Bill.
In February 2004, Tom made his debut appearance in Emmerdale as Carl King, a role he maintained for eight years until his departure in October, 2012. It is believed that the star, who played scheming Carl on the soap is now working as a window cleaner after struggling to find work following his departure from the show.
It was reported last year that Tom has set up a company in Blackpool to bring in extra cash between jobs. Speaking on Coastal Radio DAB, he opened up about how he started cleaning windows during Covid and it progressed from there.
He explained: "I am still working and I have done lots of things over the last couple of years but it’s probably one of the most tricky periods of my career. I have been very fortunate, I have had over 20 years acting and worked quite solidly through that period, be it on television or I worked on the West End.

"When Covid hit, the work just wasn’t there so Steve Royal and me set up a production company, we made an online pantomime, which we sold to school’s locally."
He continued: "But that was only a really short period of time so I was just doing regular jobs like lost of other people. So I started cleaning windows for my mate’s company and I was doing it for quite awhile and it was great to keep my head sane.
“And then that has really just progressed and I have actually franchised that company and I am now kind of doing it myself. So I have got costumers down here in Blackpool. It’s called Aqua Bright."
Tom Lister's family life
Tom Lister was born as Thomas Brown, but took on his mother's maiden name when acting to avoid confusion with another actor under the name of Tom Brown.
The actor is happily married to primary school headteacher Jennifer Humpage and they share two sons, named Benjamin and Samuel.
Tom keeps his private life out of the public eye and whilst he is active on social media, he does not share any photographs of his wife or children. Tom is also a Christian man.
Dramatic weight loss
Tom shared his impressive transformation back in March, the former soap star looks completely unrecognisable after undergoing an extensive weight loss journey.
The 44-year-old, shared his impressive new look as he revealed he has lost a dramatic 2.5 stone. Tom revealed he had spent the last six months working out and has subsequently managed to completely transform his look.
Taking to Instagram to share his before and after, Tom explained that he was inspired to change his lifestyle after finding himself "feeling low" and struggling to find work.
He told his 11.8k followers: "I started working with Lee back in September as I was feeling pretty low in myself. Covid hit me HARD in terms of lack of work opportunities, leaving me feeling a bit bereft and low on self esteem and motivation.
“This resulted in me piling on the weight and feeling pretty s***y all round. I had my reservations about online coaching and whether it would work and I’ve never really been a keen gym person. But Lee is brilliant.
“I loved working with him. It was just so easy and basically it’s a bit like having a cheerleader in your pocket! I loved the accountability and how he tailored everything to me - from the workouts to the meal planning, to giving me a kick up the a**e when I needed it!!”
Revealing his incredible achievement, he shared: “I have lost over 16kg (2.5 Stone) and I haven’t been this lean for over 20 years. We haven’t finished yet so we will keep going but I just wanted to thank @leejonespt for all he’s done for me and getting me out of the rut I was in.
“I feel healthy and strong and I’ve got some exciting work coming in at the start of this year too, so all in all it was 100% the right decision.”
