Emmerdale boss Laura Shaw has revealed all on a dark new storyline that could see one character sent to prison.
Dan Spencer is pictured in a police cell in a new spoiler, following a dramatic incident that could change his life forever.
His attempts to protect his young daughter Amelia Spencer result in him punching creepy newcomer Lloyd, but there are far-reaching consequences.
The ITV soap is set to explore how one punch has the potential to kill, and the "devastating impact" our actions can have.
Dan's decision will be explored as he faces trouble with the law for lashing out, with the punch leaving Lloyd fighting for his life.
If Lloyd dies, Dan could face a murder charge - following on from Lloyd harassing his daughter Amelia, after she began posting tutorial videos on social media for money.
Dan's future is now uncertain, as is Lloyd's, and it's revealed the split second decision could cost one character their life and another character their freedom.
It's not been confirmed whether Lloyd survives and what happens to Dan as a result, but it's been teased it could lead to an exit for him.
Speaking about the plot, soap boss Laura revealed what was ahead and touched on the importance of the storyline.
She said: "We want to show the stark reality and devastating impact one punch can have. In a moment of madness, Dan’s world will be turned upside down.
"His actions could cost him his freedom and more tragically could cost Lloyd his life. As the story unfolds, we’ll see Dan battle with the guilt of what he's done and the impact this one violent act has on his family, friends and the wider community."
Dan actor Liam Fox also discussed the plot, sharing the importance of the storyline as a whole and the scenes with Lloyd.
Liam said: "This storyline is the best I’ve been a part of in all my time in Emmerdale. When it was first discussed with me, I just knew it was going to be something special.
"The producers have absolutely come up trumps with a story that really does mean something. So many of us have been in a situation where we could be put in the same position as Dan.
"Who wouldn’t want to protect their daughter from unwanted attention? Every day of the week somebody somewhere may strike out to hit someone not knowing what that punch could lead to.
"I just hope we’ve portrayed the story in a way that realistically shows the pain that can be felt on all sides."
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
