Emmerdale 50th anniversary spoilers: When it airs, 'multiple deaths' and major stunt

Emmerdale is lining up horror scenes on the ITV soap later this year, as a deadly storm wreaks havoc in the village as the soap celebrates 50 years on air.

It's thought there could be more than one death, with funerals teased, while it's been confirmed most, if not all, of the characters will feature in the scenes.

Not only that, but some characters will be left seriously injured, as they fight for their lives in a series of epic stunts.

One stunt is said to have never been done before by any soap, and something "only Emmerdale can do".

Details have been revealed but the exact information will not be known until closer to the time.

Here is everything we know so far about the month of celebrations, and who is likely to take centre stage...

What happens during the 50th anniversary?

Emmerdale bosses have been teasing the big 50th birthday episodes set to air later this year (ITV)

The village will be changed forever, when a devastating storm hits the Dales. Charles Anderson actor Kevin Mathurin recently confirmed the anniversary episodes will lead to more than one death, while the soap has not revealed any more on this.

Bosses did confirm serious injuries and that characters would fight for their lives, as the wind storm races through the village. There will be scenes that "only Emmerdale can do" because of the location in which the scenes are filmed in.

Bosses also revealed spoilers about what will happen, including a dramatic wedding, heartbreak for one family, a possible birth and three big returns.

When does it air?

It's been confirmed that this October, the soap will air a month of storylines and drama to celebrate the 50th. There will also be a huge week amongst this, as the storm leaves lives in the balance and destroys the village.

Emmerdale's birthday will fall on a Sunday, on 16 October. It's thought there could be an episode on this day to mark the milestone, while it normally airs Monday to Friday. Viewers can expect the build-up to the big scenes already, as bosses revealed all of the plots included in the month are existing stories.

Bosses also teased the timeline of the events, with the month kicking off with the Faith Dingle death storyline, before leading into the big storm week. From there, viewers will witness the aftermath of the incident as lives are changed forever - and it's thought the village could be destroyed, literally.

Storylines formed during this week and prior, and the events that have taken place, will lead to new storylines going forward for the rest of the year.

Who is involved, and what spoilers have been revealed so far?

Some of the characters named as being involved in the events are Faith Dingle and Nate Robinson (ITV)

Some of the characters named as being involved in the events are Faith Dingle, Amelia Spencer, Nate Robinson, Harriet Finch, Kim Tate, Belle and Sam Dingle. Other names have also been thrown around, while bosses have also spilled that most characters on the show will feature in some way.

Anyone linked to Kim and her fiancé Will Taylor will be impacted by what goes down, while the Dingles also heavily feature. There's also the returns of Aaron Dingle, Tracy Metcalfe and Diane Sugden. Here we take a look at some of the key moments in the looming episodes...

Faith Dingle dies?
It's been revealed that Faith's storyline will take centre stage (ITV)

It's been revealed that Faith's storyline will take centre stage at the very start of the anniversary month in October. It's not confirmed that this is when she will die, after being diagnosed with terminal cancer earlier this year.

Bosses have hinted that Faith will depart in this big month though, so it seems this will be when her death airs. Details have not been confirmed other than that the big month will focus on Faith.

Producer Jane Hudson said: "A s we start our brilliant month we will be focusing on our Faith storyline."

She added: "Faith's story, which is such an emotional, heartbreaking story, is going to be huge across our 50th, and I think everybody involved in that story is pulling out some of the most spectacular performances I've seen in soap for a long time."

Marcus' secret exposed?
Bosses remained quiet on Marcus Dean's involvement (ITV)

While bosses remained quiet on Marcus Dean's involvement in the big episodes, actor Darcy Grey recently teased to The Mirror that he would feature. Not only that, but he suggested his character is still hiding something that will be exposed in October.

He spilled: "I think everyone's expecting Marcus to be maybe a little bit more evil than they expected but time will tell about how that will unfold."

Quizzed on what fans could expect from the 50th episode, he said: "I mean, we have to make something special, we have to do something important to show this part of British culture and history. So we want to make sure we keep the fans happy in that sense. It's a soap opera - it's big and it's loud and that's all I can say."

Asked whether he was involved, the actor coyly replied: "I'm somewhat involved, maybe. I'll keep adding to this mysterious allure." When probed on whether it could be linked to his past secret, he replied vaguely with a grin: " I don't know, maybe! Good thoughts though, I like it."

Darcy admitted that he was sad he didn't get to have anymore scenes with Jonathan Wrather, who played his dad Pierce: "I think everybody wants to see it, I think everybody would love to see it. I'm upset we didn't get to spend more onscreen time together at the time, so we'll see."

Amelia gives birth?
Another thing yet to be confirmed is whether pregnant teen Amelia Spencer will give birth during the big episodes (ITV)

Another thing yet to be confirmed is whether pregnant teen Amelia Spencer will give birth during the big episodes. What is known is that she will be in danger as the storm hits the village.

Producer Jane spilled: "Amelia is due soon, and whether or not she has the baby in the 50th celebrations I'm obviously not going to tell you. But Amelia does play a very big part in the storm and when she needs to be found, because she's stuck on her own, she does play a very big part.

"You'll just have to wait and see that and then going forward, we have just the brilliantness of the Dingles against the Spencers against everybody, and there are some fantastic proper family rows that are gonna take place between these. There are some brilliant scenes coming up so yeah, that story has got a lot of legs."

Wedding showdown
It's known that Kim and Will's wedding will air during the 50th celebrations (ITV)

It's known that Kim and Will's wedding will air during the 50th celebrations, and that Harriet Finch will try to stop Will going through with it. It's thought the wedding could feature in the big storm week, given bosses teased everyone linked to them will be impacted.

Bosses also teased that Harriet and Kim could be set for a showdown, after Kim's discovery. She overhears Harriet trying to win back Will, with actress Katherine Dow Blyton hinting her character Harriet is "playing with fire ".

Tragedy and life-changing fallout

It's said there could be one character facing life in prison after the events of the 50th. Lives will also be changed, as residents struggle with what has happened. Jane teased: "When we get to the end of October, it might be the end of our celebrations, but we will be ending that month with a storyline which kicks off a whole new story and potentially sees one of our characters looking at spending the rest They're life in jail.

"And I'm not going to tell you anything else about that story. Don't ask me because I will not tell you. But we are absolutely making sure that when our celebration month ends, it really is just the beginning of a whole new chapter particularly for one of our families."

Producer Kate Brooks added: "As part of our big 50th Week, although there's a general month of celebrations, the big 50th week will focus on a massive storm that is going to rip through the village, and absolutely leave a massive trail of destruction in its wake. Some of our best loved villagers will be in peril. And it's safe to say that literally the village won't be the same after this, and it will never be the same again, because the impact this storm has on people's lives is just massive."
