As awards season revs up, Emma Stone is all over our social media feeds, having just won a BAFTA award for Best Actress in the smash hit Poor Things. Another (interiors) trend that's all over our timeline? White cabinets.
So, what do these two have in common? The actor, who recently listed her Los Angeles home for $4 million, has a breath-taking kitchen featuring all-white kitchen cabinetry – and we suspect that trend is here to stay.
Emma's glass table and wicker chairs combine modern elegance with vintage-inspired sophistication, and it's all tied together with the monochromatic, symmetrical cabinetry. The outcome is neat and tidy, with touches of personality peeking through.
Painted cabinets are always an option when it comes to home decor, but Jennifer Ebert, Homes & Gardens' Digital Editor, suggests that white paint is a particularly smart style decision. 'White paint on kitchen cabinets adds visual interest to a kitchen while simultaneously acting as a blank canvas for other touches of color in the space,' she says.
Emma has added subtle pops of color with her turquoise oven and green plants near the sink, but for the most part, the space remains neutral. What really complements white cabinets is other textural accents. 'The woven details of the wicker chairs and the scalloped decal over the stove create a playful yet sophisticated ambiance,' Jennifer comments.
Another way to add contrast is through kitchen flooring. We love Emma's light wood floors, which tie in the darker details of the wicker chairs and wood table tray.
'Wood floors and white cabinets and walls are a perfect pair,' Jennifer says. 'The natural material of wood is an excellent companion for white, which is clean and calming. Together, they evoke a modern, timeless style.'
Looking to make a kitchen feel bigger? White paint is the solution.
'If you're working within a small kitchen, bold patterns can feel busy and make the space look more cramped,' Jennifer explains. 'White opens up the space by making it feel brighter, while patterns can be incorporated in more minor ways, like your kitchen backsplash,' she suggests.
