Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos are continuing their successful collaboration with a new project on the horizon. Stone, known for her role in Poor Things, is in talks to join Lanthimos in his upcoming film Save the Green Planet!, a remake of the 2003 South Korean comedy. The Greek filmmaker is set to start shooting this summer in the U.K. and New York, with Stone likely taking on a supporting role.
Save the Green Planet! follows the story of a disillusioned young man who captures and tortures a businessman he believes is part of an alien invasion. The film promises a battle of wits involving the captor, his girlfriend, the businessman, and a private detective.
This project marks the fourth collaboration between Stone and Lanthimos, following their work on The Favourite and the upcoming Kinds of Kindness. Their partnership also includes a 2022 silent short film titled Bleat.
The original Save the Green Planet! received critical acclaim and multiple awards in 2003. A 2020 English-language remake was announced, with Lanthimos now set to direct the film alongside producers from Element Pictures, CJ ENM, and Ari Aster's Square Peg.
Poor Things, the duo's latest project, is based on Alasdair Gray's novel and features Stone as Bella Baxter, a woman reanimated with the brain of her unborn child. The film has garnered 11 nominations at the upcoming Academy Awards, including best picture, best actress for Stone, and best director for Lanthimos.
Stone expressed her gratitude to Lanthimos during her Golden Globe acceptance speech, highlighting their strong creative partnership. Lanthimos, in turn, praised Stone's contributions as a producer-star, emphasizing their seamless communication and understanding on set.
As Stone's career continues to flourish, she is also set to star in the sequel to her 2021 Disney film Cruella. With Save the Green Planet! on the horizon, fans can anticipate another compelling collaboration between Stone and Lanthimos in the near future.
