Emma Hayes admits Chelsea ‘rightly frustrated’ after draw with Hacken

Emma Hayes admitted her Chelsea side were “frustrated and quite rightly so” after they were held to a goalless draw by Hacken in the Women’s Champions League.

While a victory would have seen Chelsea lifted into the group top spot, they were unable to break down the Swedish team, with Sam Kerr having a goal disallowed in the most significant chance of the game.

"The execution from us tonight was really poor," Emma Hayes said, reported by The Guardian.

"I can’t talk tactics when you can get in through different phases quite easily.

"In the first half? it was the technical for me. The second half, even more so. When you’re playing against a block, you can’t just play into it like we did. We’re a bit frustrated and quite rightly so."

Chelsea hit the bar twice, through Kerr and Erin Cuthbert, enjoyed 71 percent of the possession and had 22 shots compared to Hacken’s six, but the breakthrough did not come.

The result leaves Chelsea second in the group with five points from three games, while Hacken top the group, with Paris FC third and Real Madrid bottom with just one point from their opening three matches.

"The players are frustrated," said Hayes, when asked what she had said to them after the final whistle.

"They don’t need me to add to that. For us as a team, when you get into situations like you’re in tonight, a game you should win - we had enough chances to win - but we’re disappointed with a lot of the technical execution."

Hacken had not played since their previous game in the competition when they beat Real Madrid back in November, but they had enough to frustrate Chelsea and leave London with a draw.
