"Emily in Paris" season 4 whisked fans away to a whole new destination: Italy! Yes, Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) had herself a romantic Roman holiday in the fourth season of the Netflix hit, which meant not only fresh new sights but also potential Italian love interests, too. (Buongiorno Marcello!)
Ahead of the most recent batch of episodes, creator Darren Star told Tudum that "Emily in Paris" fans could "expect new characters, a lot more drama, romance, and a whole new language to try and master" in season 4.
And, of course, there was still plenty of messy personal drama to deal with in the back-half of the season, after that shocking mid-season cliffhanger. At the end of "Emily in Paris" season 4 part 1 (spoilers ahead!), Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) was dealing with the disappointment of not getting a Michelin star after all (what with Luc's Michelin inspector girlfriend being a fraud and all). Camille (Camille Razat) — fresh from getting dumped by Sofia (Melia Kreiling) and shockingly learning from her OBGYN that she was actually never pregnant to begin with — didn't want to add onto the chef's disappointment, so she chose not to tell him about the pregnancy that wasn't.
That led to major drama in season 4 part 2 between Emily and Gabriel, resulting in the couple splitting up and Emily taking off for Italy and sparking up a relationship with Italian cashmere scion Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini). A lot went down this season, so let's dig into all of it — here's everything you need to know about "Emily in Paris" season 4.
'Emily in Paris' season 4 release date
Like fellow Netflix hits such as "Bridgerton," "Stranger Things" and "You," season 4 of "Emily in Paris" was released in two parts. The first five episodes hit the streaming platform on Thursday, August 15; the final five installments followed nearly a month later on Thursday, September 12.
'Emily in Paris' season 4 trailers and teasers
On August 26, Netflix released the full-length trailer for the final episodes of "Emily in Paris" season 4. The two-minute clip was packed with juicy teasers and a fresh new location, with footage of Emily and Co. jetting off to Italy. Given all that went down in season 4 part 1, we really couldn't blame Emily for wanting to escape her French-set everyday life for the glamor of a Roman holiday.
'Emily in Paris' season 4 cast
You can't have "Emily in Paris" without Emily, so obviously Lily Collins was back as our eponymous marketing manager. Season 4 also saw the return of other main cast members, including Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu as Emily's boss Sylvie Grateau, as well as co-workers Samuel Arnold as Julien and Bruno Gouery as Luc. (And speaking of Sylvie, William Abadie also returned as her former lover slash client Antoine Lambert, as did Arnaud Binard as her husband Laurent G.)
Outside of the Agence Grateau cohort, the main players of Emily's friend group were also all back, including Ashley Park as Mindy, Camille Razat as Camille, Lucien Laviscount as Alfie and Lucas Bravo as Gabriel.
And season 4 saw several new characters join the mix, too. Along with the aforementioned Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini), i.e. Emily's hunky new friend from Italy, there was Thalia Besson as Genevieve, Laurent’s twentysomething daughter from a past relationship, who stirred up both personal and professional drama for Emily as a new hire at Agence Grateau and a new friend of Gabriel.
The fourth season also introduced Raoul Bova as Giancarlo, a Roman commercial director who used to be Sylvie’s film professor and with whom she re-sparks an affair; and British actor Rupert Everett as Giorgio Barbieri, the owner of a global interior design firm based in Rome who Sylvie seeks out for a major favor.
'Emily in Paris' season 4 plot
Going into season 4, series star Lucas Bravo said viewers could expect “good old Darren Star chaos” in the upcoming episodes. And there was plenty of chaos to go around. Camille finally got around to telling Gabriel that it was a false pregnancy, but things between the French chef and Gabriel were already fractured by then, thanks to the couple's lack of communication.
After Emily broke things off with Gabriel, a chance encounter with handsome Italian businessman Marcello turned into a new romance for Mademoiselle Cooper and had her flying to Italy multiple times throughout the season. That was good news for Sylvie, who was desperate to sign Marcello and his family's cashmere company Umberto Muratori to Agence Grateau, especially because Marcello had been in talks to be acquired by Nicolas de Léon (Paul Forman) and the JVMA team, who were still reeling from Sylvie's exposé on JVMA boss Louis de Léon (Pierre Deny). Despite Marcello's objections, his mother Antonia Muratori (Anna Galiena) agreed to give Sylvie and the agency a chance at representing them.
The drama with the Léon family also bled into Mindy and Nico's relationship: Mindy broke up with her beau after he selfishly asked her to quit Eurovision because of the JVMA scandal. When he retaliated by getting her kicked out of the song competition, she took her broken heart to Italy to meet up with Emily — and in the process, she went viral with a break-up ballad sung right on the streets of Rome. That led to an opportunity to go to Shanghai as a judge on the new season of Chinese Popstar.
Gabriel's professional dreams came true, too — his restaurant finally got the Michelin star he was dreaming of all season. However, the win was bittersweet because it wasn't shared with Emily. It was complicated even further by the unwanted attentions of Sylvie's stepdaughter Genevieve, who not only was now working with Gabriel as a part of Agence Grateau but also was his new next-door neighbor, taking over Camille's old apartment. (For her part, Camille had moved out and was planning on adopting a child on her own.)
His desires to reconcile with Emily faced a bit of a roadblock though, what with Sylvie announcing that Agence Grateau would be opening an office in Roam and assigning Emily to run it. That meant that Emily was officially moving to Italy, much to Marcello's happiness and Gabriel's chagrin. The last we saw of Gabriel in season 4, he was demanding to know exactly where Emily was now located so that he could go to Rome and win his girl back.
Tom's Guide will keep you posted on all things "Emily in Paris," especially with a fifth season officially greenlit by Netflix. In the meantime, you can rewatch the drama's first four seasons on the streaming platform.
