Emily in Paris haters back off: its about swapping toxicity for healing

There’s a moment towards the end of Emily in Paris’ latest season where a realisation quietly lands: Emily Cooper has changed. Not in the “new city, new hair cut” way the show usually mistakes for growth (although she has opted for a new, questionable style, once again...hmm, maybe it’s me who hasn’t healed), but in the more unsettling sense that she is now behaving better in a relationship that is not the one we spent years emotionally investing in.

Emily’s romantic arc post-season two has always been defined by chaos masquerading as choice. What’s striking about season five isn’t that our favourite social media girlie has a new love interest – that’s practically a structural requirement at this point – but that her approach to dating feels fundamentally different.
