Emerson Royal responds to Cristian Romero after realising how Tottenham ace celebrated his goal

Cristian Romero could be in for quite a surprise the next time he sees Tottenham teammate Emerson Royal. Victorious on Sunday as they beat West Ham 2-0 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the right wing-back had a major say on Spurs registering all three points after netting the opener in the London derby.

Racing upfield after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg had played in Ben Davies with a precise pass, the Welshman put the ball on a plate for his teammate to coolly slot in beyond Lukasz Fabianski. The goal put Spurs on their way to an important victory in the top-four race, with Son Heung-min wrapping up the victory four minutes after coming off the substitutes' bench as he calmly slotted the ball past the West Ham shot-stopper.

Emerson's celebration was a big talking point as many fans pointed out what Romero did to Spurs' No.12. Having been grabbed by the collar by Richarlison, Emerson then received a kick on his backside from the Argentina international.

That wasn't it from the World Cup winner as he then showed his delight by going head-to-head with his teammate after the rest of the players had made their way back to the Spurs half. Perhaps a rather unusual celebration compared to the vast majority of others, it's not the first time we have seen the centre-back show his happiness in a rather unique way when one of his teammates has netted.

As Emerson was mobbed by the team after scoring the first goal of the afternoon, it appears that he didn't even realise that Romero had kicked him if his reaction on social media is anything to go by. Taking to his Instagram stories, Emerson posted a video of the celebrations which included the caption "Cuti, I am going to kill you!!" along with a laughing emoji.

Speaking after the game in his post-match press conference, Tottenham assistant head coach Cristian Stellini showered Emerson with praise following his goal.

"I don't think it is linked with the signing of Pedro Porro but this type of performance from Emerson we had in the start of the season. The start of the season was one of the best performances. He played very well," explained the Italian. "After the three-match ban, after Arsenal, maybe he has lost his place but there was the World Cup that interrupted the season and this is a weird season for many teams and many players.

"It is important that the staff work to understand when is the moment to work, when is the moment to perform and when is the moment to recover. So it's not an easy situation."

Whoever scores next for Tottenham may want to keep a close eye on Romero when he comes over to celebrate!
