A new emergency alerts service that will warn people about nearby threats through their mobile phones is being launched by the government.
On Sunday, April 23, at 3pm, everyone who has a compatible UK mobile - and has not opted out of the service - will get a test alert on their phone as the government trials its new system. People will see a message flash up on their phone as a notification and it will be accompanied by a siren sound.
The test alert should not cause any panic - it is simply to check that the system works for when it will be used in future.
