People have been left baffled after not receiving the Government's new emergency alert or getting it worryingly late. The Government sent out an alert at 3pm to every 4G and 5G device across the United Kingdom at 3pm on Sunday, April 23 to test its new Emergency Alerts service.
The sound and vibration lasted for about 10 seconds, with the alert including a phone number or a link to the GOV.UK website for more information - which in a time of real emergency would warn if there was a life-threatening emergency nearby. But some did not receive the alert, or received the alert later than expected, with people taking to social media to joke at the expense of the test.
One Twitter user joked: "So looks like I won't be getting a place in the bunker, come emergency evacuation. No text alert for me"

Another added: "I am most disappointed. All that excitement for weeks on end and when I get revved up nothing! Not a peep from my old phone either!"
"So I didn’t get my #emergencyalert. Nice to know I’m gonna die in event of severe situation," one person said.
Another said: "Probably a good job they practiced it as mine didn’t go off #emergencyalert."
People also reported receiving the alert at different times than expected. One Twitter poster said: "Mine went off at 3.03pm. And I could still hear others at about 3:.07pm when I was leaving the supermarket."
"15 mins later and I’ve finally received it," another user said, showing a picture of the late alert.
