Embroidered partition to give King Charles privacy during sacred part of coronation

King Charles will be given extra privacy during his coronation thanks to a new partition which has been built for the ceremony. Charles will be shielded by the petition when he is anointed by the Archbishop of Canterbury on May 6.

Queen Elizabeth used a canopy during her 1953 coronation but King Charles has opted to stand behind a central decorated screen. Further screens will either end will enclose the King on three sides.

The partition has been designed by Painter Aidan Hart and includes an embroidered design celebrating the Commonwealth. The artist took his inspiration from the Golden Jubilee stained glass window at Chapel Royal, St James's Palace, which depicts the "family of nations" as a tree.
