Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur, has announced his intention to donate approximately $45 million per month to a super PAC supporting former President Trump. This decision follows Musk's recent endorsement of Trump after the Republican candidate survived an assassination attempt.
The super PAC, named America PAC, was established last month with financial contributions from Musk's associates, including individuals such as Joe Lonsdale of Palantir Technologies, the Winklevoss twins, and Kelly Craft, the former U.S. ambassador to Canada, and her husband, Joe, who is the CEO of Alliance Resource Partners, a coal producer.
Since its formation, America PAC has already spent over $6.6 million in support of Trump, who was officially nominated as the Republican candidate for president at the party's National Convention.
The primary focus of America PAC is on voter registration initiatives and encouraging residents in swing states to vote early and request mail-in ballots. This strategy aims to counter the Democrats' efforts in mobilizing voters leading up to the November election.
Musk, currently the wealthiest individual globally with an estimated fortune exceeding $250 billion, plans to make substantial monthly donations of $45 million to the super PAC until the election. This commitment marks one of the most significant financial contributions in the 2024 election cycle, with the largest known donation so far being $50 million from the great-grandson of banker Thomas Mellon to a pro-Trump super PAC.
Recent filings indicate that America PAC received contributions totaling $8.75 million for the quarter ending on June 30. Musk is reported to have made an initial donation to the super PAC last week, although the exact amount remains undisclosed.
