People in general don't associate social media with "the truth," but Twitter CEO Elon Musk is looking to change that perception with Community Notes.
Formerly known as Birdwatch before Musk rebranded it in November, Community Notes is Twitter's answer to online misinformation.
"The intent is for this site to be fair & impartial," Musk tweeted from his personal account Tuesday.
Community Notes has been around since November, but a tweet from Musk raises its visibility, allowing Twitter to do what it does best.
Some users tied Elon Musk to former President Donald Trump and his "Make America Great Again" slogan.
Many users took issue with the phrase "least wrong truth," with one referencing George Orwell.
Others commented on the issues they've had signing up for the service.
Elon Argues With MSM
Last month, Musk popped up after The Washington Post shared a story that insinuates that Musk's changes to Twitter after his purchase of the social media platform in October 2022 were specifically to cater to his own desires as a user.
The story mentions that Twitter made algorithmic changes that resulted in users seeing Musk's tweets first, which Platformer originally reported on Feb. 14, after a tweet made by President Joe Biden about the Super Bowl outperformed Musk's own tweets.
"Biden’s tweet, in which he said he would be supporting his wife in rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles, generated nearly 29 million impressions. Musk, who also tweeted his support for the Eagles, generated a little more than 9.1 million impressions before deleting the tweet in apparent frustration," Platformer writes.
