Elon Musk has always been known for his eccentric management style, and he pulled off another interesting move with Tesla (TSLA).
The founder of the electric vehicle company announced via email on Monday that any future hiring decisions within Tesla would need his personal approval.

"No one can join Tesla, even as a contractor, until you receive my email approval," Musk said in an email reviewed by outlets such as Reuters and Insider.
Musk even told his staff to “think carefully” before sending him any of the potential hires, likely an acknowledgment of how tedious the process would be considering the many applicants.
Tesla grew its headcount by 30,000 in 2022 and employs nearly 130,000 people. It announced it had received 3.6 million applications in 2022 alone.
However, Tesla has had to face some layoffs in recent months. The company cut 9% of its staff last June, 7% in January and another unclear percentage in March.
But Musk’s micromanagement of the hiring process isn’t actually completely new to Tesla as he did the same in 2019.
"All headcount requests from the business must get Elon approval," the February 2019 email read.
Musk’s decision on Tesla comes just days after he hired former NBC executive Linda Yaccarino as CEO to Twitter, the other major company he leads. Tesla shareholders have worried that Musk has put too much focus on the social media outlet, so this could signify an immediate focus shift from Musk.
