Elon Musk introduces temporary new rules and limits to Twitter

Twitter has brought in temporary reading limits for all users, Elon Musk has announced.

Mr Musk, who owns the social media platform, said unverified accounts would only be able to view up to 600 posts per day under the new measures. Meanwhile, verified accounts will be limited to reading 6,000 posts in a 24-hour period.

Newly unverified accounts can only read 300 posts per day, Mr Musk said in a statement. He added that the restrictions had been put in place 'to address extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation'.

Earlier today, thousands of Twitter users reported problems using the app and website. The issues were first reported at about 12.20pm, with some complaining of seeing a 'cannot retrieve tweets' error message when attempting to view or post tweets.

One user wrote: "What's going on with twitter. I can't update the feed. It's saying there's an error or something. It seems to be the app is down at the moment."

Another added: "I joined Twitter in 2009, and I've had more problems since Elon took over than the whole time before that. Insanity."
