The Miami Grand Prix delivered on its promise to capture the attention of the rich and famous as two of the world's wealthiest men were spotted in the Formula 1 pit lane on Saturday.
Elon Musk took a break from his overhaul at social media site Twitter to fly across to the east coast for the event. He was pictured in the Red Bull garage ahead of FP3, chatting with team boss Christian Horner.
The Tesla and SpaceX chief was given a tour of all the inner workings of a Formula 1 team on a race weekend. While holding his baby son, Musk was pictured trying on a pair of headphones at the back of the garage while Horner watched on.
And the 51-year-old was not the only billionaire spotted in the pit lane during that session. Jeff Bezos has also made the trip to Miami to take a closer look at one of the fastest growing sports in the US.
But the Amazon founder had not affiliated himself with the defending champions. Instead, Bezos was working with one of the underdogs this weekend, as TV cameras spotting him working on the pit wall with McLaren engineers.
Bezos was also seen chatting with McLaren CEO Zak Brown, though some F1 fans on social media pointed out that he may have some split loyalties. After all, Amazon's IT services company AWS is a sponsor of the Ferrari team.
Some others shared theories about the two billionaires possibly investing in the sport in the future. "Are the two richest men in the world going to buy into Formula 1?" one Twitter user wrote.
Not everyone was pleased to see the two wealthy visitors on their TV screens, though. "Team bosses pandering to celebs and Elon Musk, Zak Brown fluffing a pillow for Bezos on the McLaren pit wall, empty grandstands, a crap circuit and another boring race seemingly inevitable due to a subpar surface. Welcome to Miami," another fan ranted.
Meanwhile, some others noticed that Horner was not the only important figure Musk was seen chatting to. One fan pointed out that the Twitter owner had also spoken with F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Horner explained that Musk was there at the invite of another businessman Larry Ellison, executive chairman of the team's title sponsor Oracle. "We were talking about batteries, regeneration and so on. Great to have them here this weekend," he said.
