Ellie Goulding has finally responded to the rumours that she cheated on Ed Sheeran with Niall Horan after 10 years.
The singer, 36, was speculated to have dated Sheeran, 31, back in 2013 after they were pictured holding hands at the MTV VMA Awards. Goulding denied the reports at the time.
Rumours then circulated that she cheated on Sheeran with former One Direction member Horan, 29, after Sheeran later revealed an ex cheated on him with a friend in his song Don’t.
In a video shared by Goulding over Christmas on Tik Tok, a fan brought up the decade-old rumour in the comment section.
They wrote: “Can’t believe you cheated on Ed with Niall but slay.”
Goulding quipped back: “False!!!! But also slay”.
A second fan chimed in, writing: “Never mind Ed or Niall, I’m available”.
Another added: “Never will forget Ed dissing”.
At the time rumours arose over Goulding and Sheeran being an item, Goulding insisted that they were just friends, while Sheeran claimed that the pair were more than that.
The Burn singer tweeted in response to the speculation: “I love that holding hands with my friends means we’re an item.”
Goulding added: “In that case I am in many relationships. Lover not a hater. #whatthef**k”.
Sheeran, however, claimed that he and the singer were more than good friends. Asked on US radio show Clock 98.9 about the dating rumours, he said: “I mean, normal people don’t hold hands if they’re just friends.”
However, Goulding did admit to enjoying a brief relationship with Horan in an interview two years later, as she remained firm on her stance that she did not go out with Sheeran.
She told Elle magazine: “I did go on a few dates with Niall, but I was never in a relationship with Ed [Sheeran]. I have absolutely no idea where that came from and why it was turned into such a big thing.
“I find it so frustrating that female musicians are constantly defined by the men they have or haven’t dated.
“It’s like, you can be a great artist, you can write great songs, but the thing that everyone is going to talk about is some relationship they think you have had or not had. It’s definitely something we both think happens to female artists over male artists.”
Goulding is now married to partner Caspar Jopling and welcomed her first child in April 2021.
