Retired television host Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have moved to rural England with no plans of returning to the U.S. in a move attributed to Donald Trump's election to the nation's highest office.

The couple put their estate in Montecito, California, up for sale and moved to Cotswolds, a rural area in south-central England, telling loved ones that the largest reason for the change was the re-election of Donald Trump, a source close to them told The Wrap.

The Montecito property, bought by DeGeneres in 2019, became her and de Rossi's primary residence. The property, which is just an hour and a half away from Los Angeles, has either already been pocket-listed, or will be soon.

DeGeneres, who retired from her talk show in 2022, has talked about life after leaving the direct spotlight on multiple occasions.

"I decided to take up gardening," DeGeneres said in "For Your Approval", a standup show produced by Netflix. "I got chickens. Let me see what else I can tell you about what's been going on ... Oh yeah, I got kicked out of show business ... Yeah, the 'be kind' girl wasn't kind. That was the headline."

"Had I ended my show by saying, 'Go f–k yourselves,' people would have been pleasantly surprised to find out I'm kind," she continued.
