A24 has unveiled a new trailer for its upcoming documentary about Elizabeth Holmes, showing the disgraced Theranos founder in tears.
Titled You Can See Everything, the film’s official description reads: “Thirty-four days before she’s sent to prison, notorious Silicon Valley founder Elizabeth Holmes invites a skeptical film crew to document her every move. What begins as an intimate portrait of an enigmatic felon becomes a mind-bending three-year journey into the abyss.”
Holmes was convicted in January 2022 on four counts of fraud and conspiracy for lying about the capabilities of her biotech company’s blood testing technology and conning investors out of millions of dollars. She was sentenced to more than 11 years in prison.
The film, which Nathan Fielder and director Lance Oppenheim have been making in secret for three years, will be released in theaters October 16.
In the new trailer, Holmes said: “I think this is the moment in time to capture this story before I’m gone.”
She and her husband, William Evans, are both grilled by Fielder in the teaser. Fielder stayed with the couple as he captured footage of the days leading up to her incarceration.
“Does any part of you worry about me being here 24/7?” Fielder asked.
“I don’t think so,” Holmes replied.
“Well, what if I see something that makes you look bad?” Fielder prodded as Holmes smirked, remaining silent.
Fielder then questions Evans, who admitted to falling in love with Holmes “probably before” she revealed she was the founder of Theranos.
“Weren’t you worried she was, sort of, scamming you?” Fielder asked.
“A hundred percent, but what did she have to gain from me?” Evans responded.
“Well ... isn’t your family rich?” Fielder countered, to which Evans — heir to the Evans Hotel Group — replied, “Yeah. I think there are a lot of different levels of wealth.”
In another moment, Fielder asked Evans: “You’ve never been suspicious that she’s ever lied to you?”
“No. Never,” Evans said.
Fielder told Holmes in a following scene that he had a “weird feeling there’s some things I’m not seeing.”
“It’s because I don’t have anything to hide,” Holmes replied. But Fielder didn’t look convinced.
The closing seconds of the nearly two-and-a-half-minute trailer were a close-up on Holmes as she said: “It took me a really long time to be okay with letting someone see me cry.” A single tear rolled down her cheek.
Holmes began serving her 11-year sentence in May 2023 at a federal prison in Texas. Her listed release date at the Federal Bureau of Prisons is currently March 19, 2032.
You Can See Everything premieres in theaters October 16.
