Color, shimmer, feathers, volumes, and quintessential Couture craftsmanship make up Elie Saab’s Mediterranean-themed SS22 show today in the City of Light. Drawn to the culture around the Mediterranean—the beauty, heritage, charm and landscapes—Saab and his design team were able to capture the region in fifty-five scintillating looks that reflect the color, glistening sea, and idyllic essence.

Opening the show was a feathered ballgown in the most eye-catching hues of pink. Saab’s use of shimmery sequins and crystals give notice to tulle, and layers of chartreuse taffeta which, “explode into large off-the-shoulder rose petals and peony bouquets that exaggerate organic feminine curves,” mentions the House notes.

“Strong structured shoulders like colonnades of ancient temples, plummet into billowing trains of ivory and greige. Sleeves continue into graceful gloves embroidered in a sun-kissed, sparkling sea of aquas and mints usher us forward, while tassels and fringe swish and sway to myths of the Greeks and Romans,” continues the House.

It’s a dreamy collection filled with long skirt silhouettes, beading, flowers, feathers, dramatic shoulders, deep v-necks, and thigh high slits. Even a pants suit offers a different and bold touch. The looks are for mature women, even the short sultry looks scream class and elegance. Many ready for red-carpet looks, I’m sure will grace Award shows and film festivals this year.

Elie Saab was one of the first designers to emerge out of his tiny Levant country, to breakout on the world stage. Putting Lebanon on the map, the world was reminded of the known couture talent that encapsulates the Mediterranean nation. He has been in the business of fashion for over forty years and his designs have captured the hearts of women around the world.

And oh, the last look, the bridal gown. Can we talk about that? The strapless gown with low wide skirting gives off a mermaid-esque feel. Its shimmer and feathers are pure glamor. And the matching shawl that’s also a veil is breathtaking, showing Saab’s elegant couture craftsmanship.

This collection is a continuation of Elie Saab’s couture talent, unleased in Paris to an audience that knows the Mediterranean all too well. It’s a collection that should be seen to be believed, as most anything Saab designs is a dream.
