Elias Melkersen could be set to leave Hibernian just one year after joining the club, according to reports.
The Norwegian forward sealed the deal to join the Hibees last January from Bodo/Glimt for a "significant undisclosed fee" but found the transition to Scotland difficult with just three goals in 29 appearances since making the switch to the Leith outfit. The 20-year-old has fallen down the pecking order of Lee Johnson's side with returning Kevin Nisbet holding down the fort on rock-solid form.
Now according to reports in Holland, Sparta Rotterdam are lining up a loan swoop for the forward that could include a potential option to buy should the switch prove fruitful. Johnson previously spoke of the need to cut his over-inflated squad in the January window and Melkersen could be a candidate for a switch.

The striker made a cameo appearance in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Dundee United as Johnson called for the Hibees forwards to weigh in with goals with Nisbet carrying the burden in recent weeks. He said: "Nizzy scored two great goals, so that’s five in two games, and that’s really important.
“Like I say, in the end, we’ve gone for it with four forwards on the pitch, and Nizzy’s good finish bailed us out.
“I’m holding my hands up and saying we’ve got to be better, but the point could be really important come the end of the season and it keeps us in that top six mix.”
